Martin Luther King, Jr

This week we talked about Martin Luther King, Jr in class. We watched a movie on Brainpop-Jr. And did MLK portraits (The idea came from a similar activity I encounter on Pinterest).  The pictures turned out wonderful.  My students also made a list as group of the things they learned.

Esta semana hablamos sobre Martin Luther King, Jr.  Vimos una pelicula en Brainpop-Jr. y luego hicimos "retatos" de MLK.  La idea salio de algo similar que vi en Pinterest.  Los retratos salieron de maravillas.  Mis estudiantes tambien hicieron una lista en grupo de las cosas que aprendieron esta semana sobre MLK.

Knock Knock, who's there?/Toc toc Quien esta ahi?

Homemade Sandpaper numeral-used to review number recognition.
All number cards are place facing down, they are carefully mixed and the students take turns knocking on a card.
The child that knocks says aloud: Knock, knock
The other child says: Who's there?
The child that knocks turns the card up and says the number.  If they recognize it successfully he or she gets to keep the card, if not, the cards get mixed again.
(I do this same activity with specific sets of letters-which are divided into small groups).

Numeros de lija hechos a mano-utilizados para el reconocimiento/discriminacion de los numeros. 
Todas las tarjetas se colocan hacia abajo, se mezclan cuidadosamente (para no rayar la mesa :p) y los estudiantes toman turnos tocando en la tarjeta.
El estudiante que toca dice: toc toc
El otro nino dice: Quien esta ahi?
El estudiante que toca voltea la tarjeta y dice el numero.  Si lo reconocen, conservan la tarjeta, sino las tarjetas se mezclan y continua el juego.
(Yo hago esta misma actividad con las letras de lija-que estan divididas en grupos pequenos)

Some of my students have been struggling with these two letters, in order to help them "see the difference" I came up with this activity.  I gave each child an already traced b and d (on construction paper).  They did the cutting and the gluing. 

Varios de mis estudiantes han tenido muchos problemas con estas dos letras.  Para ayudarlos, hice esta actividad.  Le di a cada estudiante una letra b y d ya trazada en papel de construccion.  Ellos la cortaron y la pegaron las letras en papel manila.

The student grabs a card from the pile.  Says the word aloud, and then places it under its corresponding initial sound.
El estudiante toma un tarjeta, dice lo que es en voz alta y luego la coloca debajo de la letra correspondiente.

Comparar B y D-sonido inicial

A variation of the previous exercise-the student grabs a syllable from basket, reads it and then places on an object that begins with it.
Una variacion del ejercicio previo-el estudiante agarra una silaba de la canasta, la lee y luego la coloca sobre alguna lamina que comienze con esta.
